Immortals: Fenyx Rising – Myths Of The Eastern Realm

Dawn of a brand new deity

-

Even though Fenyx is the headliner of this cartoony open-world take on legendary gods and monsters, new hero Ku takes centre stage in this DLC that bucks the Greek trend. Myths Of The Eastern Realm eschews the pantheon we’ve come to know in the main game in favour of Chinese mythology.

Fittingly, this DLC has been led by Chinese studio Ubisoft Chengdu. It’s nice to know that this take on China’s fascinating legends is being headed up by a team from that region, as it should ensure extra insight and authenticity.

Set before the events of the main game, it takes place during a war between Heaven and Earth, when humans have been returned to the clay from which the goddess Nuwa originally formed them. That is, all except for Ku, who somehow manages to escape a cloying fate, and finds themself in a world in need of a hero.

Not only will you encounter new gods, you’ll meet monsters that reflect the changed setting. Even the combat gets an overhaul, moving into Chinese martial arts. It’s a big change: what’s here almost feels like it could have formed the core of a full sequel.

Could Ubisoft be testing the waters, or will smaller adventures into other mythologies become the norm going forward? Either way, it’s exactly how we’d love to see the Immortals-verse grow. One piece of DLC, The Lost Gods (which will introduce hero Ash and a top-down brawler style, and return to the Greek setting) remains to be released.
