01 THE LOMBAX IS BACK A brand-new standalone adventure
WAccording to Insomniac’s creative director Marcus Smith, newcomers won’t have to worry about any backstory, telling us: “If you’ve never played a Ratchet & Clank game before, this is an excellent one to start with as the adventure is a standalone storyline, but longtime fans of the series will nd deeper layers of connection to previous games.”
02 SOLID STATE DIMENSIONS The interdimensional plot is a showcase for PS5’s SSD

“Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is a game about dimensions and dimensional rifts, and that would not have been possible without the solid state drive of the PlayStation 5,” explains Marcus Smith. “The SSD is screamingly fast, it allows us to build worlds and project players from one place to another at near-instantaneous speeds.[…] You don’t even imagine this is something we couldn’t do before because it feels so natural.”
03 Easy traversal RUN in THE the palm RIFT of your paw
RHopping between dimensions is actually just one of many forms of traversal in the game – another new moveset enables on rails and riding a range of exotic creatures in the water and in the air. And it comes naturally to him. “Ratchet’s core movement is faster and more responsive with faster and smoother transitions from move to move, making Ratchet feel more agile than ever,” says game director Mike Daly.

04 SWEET 60 The series finally gets a performance mode
FWith the smoother animations and movesets, we’d choose Performance mode, which seems not to sacri ce any loss of detail despite all the e ects, objects, and NPCs littering the screen, as seen in an early demo in Megalopolis. Better yet, the 2016 remake has also been patched so that PS5 owners can play it at 60fps.
05 SHINY AND NEW Ray tracing makes these dimensions even more immersive
BThe sight of Ratchet blasting away a gang of Goons-4-Less in Megalopolis while the action is shiny surfaces is a feast for the eyes. ray tracing will be present at 60fps, but given that Insomniac managed to introduce RT Performance mode Man and Miles Morales, we’re both worlds to players.

07 The DualSense TRIGGER makes every HAPPY weapon feel unique
Wweapon, we can give you a subtle reload cue through the controller that lets you know explains Daly. That’s useful when using weapons with a cooldown – you won’t have to look to know when you’re good to go again. Daly accurately by pulling the trigger up to a middle threshold, or you can pull through to go all-out at the cost of accuracy. It’s much more intuitive to have this secondary function directly on the trigger than buttons for it.”

08 WHERE IN THE MULTIVERSE? Which dimensions will Rift Apart take us to?
SOther areas throw back to old favourites, with that alternative dimension twist. That includes the swamps of Sargasso, and a desert straight out of Torren IV (with a giant robot hunting you down to boot). We’ve also seen a shootout with pirates that’s possibly in Ardolis… and doesn’t the purple hue of some of those dimensional rifts remind you of the Netherverse? Thanks to the SSD, you’ll be hopping between these space lightning fast.
09 Welcome WHAT to VILLAINY Nefarious City
WDr. Nefarious has a simple solution: tear apart space and time with the Dimensionator to an alernate universe where he always wins. This multiverse menace is the ruler of Nefarious City, Dr. Nefarious of its own. Can the city be big enough for the two of them?
