Released ten years ago this month – is it still Infamous?

-

With PS3 delivering realistic graphics, Sucker Punch dropped its Thievius Raccoonus in favour of a grittier series: Infamous. You were cast as the electrokinetic Cole MacGrath and had to choose whether to use your powers for good or evil. (Binary moral choice systems were in vogue at the time.) We asked PSM readers to share their thoughts…

“Infamous 2 was a bundle alongside the PlayStation 3 when I first played it,” shares reader Preston Shannon. “Although the console was nearing the end of its lifespan, I hold this game near and dear to me because it really got me back into gaming. Its choices that you could make and phenomenal gameplay really made it a must-play at the time.”

SUPER SERIES

Many miss Cole’s era of superpowered playgrounds. “Second Son [on PS4] was cool but the first games were masterpieces!” says Vagos-n Sunderground. Though there were lots of calls for remasters, Igor Van Waerebeek

thinks the series should return for the new gen: “What a fantastic IP! Here’s hoping a PS5 Infamous is in the making.” And @dravencage

says we should ditch Second Son’s Delsin: “I enjoyed Second Son, but want to have Cole back for a new game.”

People are split on whether the sequel surpasses the original, but for Mitchell Theisinger it definitely does:

“[Infamous] 2 is still by far the best in the series. It still even today feels immersive, and has many ranges of playstyle for all. While not a selling feature in itself, the game did make great use of the PS3 Move motion controls.” @Barrsyboy can’t forget “how amazing it is to practically become Thor whenever you summon lightning from the sky in that one mission towards the end.” Let’s hope for a return.

?? ?? The city was yours to do with as you saw fit. Was your Cole a nice guy or a bad boy?
