Ace Attorney has been yelling ‘Objection!’ from the PlayStation gallery since 2019, when Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy collected together the first three games. This July we’re getting The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, a duology that winds back the clock and follows Wright’s ancestor Ryunosuke Naruhodo.
When fledgling attorney Ryunosuke finds himself in hot water on the stand, you’ll have to work to clear his name. By inspecting scenes, scrubbing through witness testimony spotting any details that don’t fit, and occasionally making a dialogue choice, you’ll crack this case. This visual-novel-meets-adventure game crosses the boards with with its story as well as its gameplay, with action taking place during Japan’s Meiji Period and England’s Victorian era.
Ryunosuke is aided by law student Asogi Kazuma, and the pair partner up with the one, the only, the legally distinct ace detective Herlock Sholmes. Sholmes may be brilliant but he also has a habit of leaping to conclusions. Engaging in a Dance Of Deduction, Ryunosuke will need steer Sholmes’ musings back onto the right track. Naturally, as this is an Ace Attorney game, Holmes is just the first notable person in the over-the-top cast.
GETTING THE POINT
Presenting your silver bullet of evidence and shouting ‘Objection!’ is wonderfully satisfying. We’re glad to see two more games previously exclusive to Japan coming to PlayStation and the West.
