Dead Space
Dead Space being remade for PS5
The developer has confirmed that despite rebuilding rather than porting, it will be faithful to the original vision.
Brought to life like a necromorph, this isn’t Dead Space 4, nor is it a simple remaster. It’s a full-on remake in much the same way as Resident Evil 2, with the game being rebuilt from the ground up in Frostbite exclusively for new-gen systems. This is the kind of terror you’ll only experience on PlayStation 5.
EA Motive has picked up the reins from shuttered studio Visceral Games for this return to the series’ roots. The journey back to the first game means a return of the purer horror that characterised the 2008 original. When Isaac Clark first encounters the message “cut off their limbs” smeared in blood on the wall, you know you’re in for a special survival horror experience (something lacking from Dead Space 3, which became a poster child for badly implemented microtransactions). You survive by taking apart enemies piece by piece, wielding gritty mining tools that feel inspired by Alien’s industrial grime. In space, no-one can hear our cheeks clench.
The developer has confirmed that despite rebuilding rather than porting, it will remain faithful to the original vision. Changes have come from observing what had to be pruned during the original game’s development, and from using new technology to increase players’ sense of immersion, from the SSD that ensures there are no delays as we wander Aegis VII (it’ll be an uninterrupted sequence like God Of War), to enhanced audio and visuals keeping things, well, visceral – just like the series’ creator.
