Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla The Siege Of Paris
Paris will burn
Following Wrath Of the Druids’ release earlier this year, Valhalla’s second expansion debuted on 12 August. In it protagonist Eivor travels to Francia after hearing of a new rising power. This sets them on a course that will conclude with a particular treat for Viking history buffs.
As Eivor, you infiltrate the fortified city of Paris, sail its river Seine, scoop up secrets, and hopefully find something you can use to strengthen your clan’s political position. On top of the bloody, foregone conclusion suggested by its title, as well as new gear and abilities this DLC reintroduces Black Box Infiltration Missions.
A fan-favourite inherited from 2014’s Assassin’s Creed Unity, these missions make assassinations more of an undertaking rather than simply running up to your mark and shanking them with your wristmounted blade before scurrying off into the countryside. Let loose in a fairly open area, there are plenty of optional objectives to complete to lay the scene for your perfectly planned kill. After being presented with your target, it’s up to you to fill in the gaps in their story, up to and including how it will be ended by your hand.
While the first expansion piqued our interest with its setup and the introduction of new characters, it failed to stick the landing. This is more ambitious, and it’s great to see some mechanical changes that make it feel worth putting yet even more hours into Valhalla.
Infiltrate the fortified city of Paris, sail the Seine, and scoop up secrets.
