As much of the ruined San Francisco is flooded, Aloy will spend plenty of time in the water, with a diving mask ensuring she can explore deep below. And you’ll be glad to dive in to explore the coral reefs or discover what new machines are swimming around. Water effects have always brought out some of the most dazzling visuals for any new tech, and are doing so again with PS5.

While you can certainly expect more detail in all Forbidden West’s environments – especially in native 4K – the rendering technique for the underwater scenes is a particular highlight as it uses far more sophisticated systems than on PS4, one of these being the wave technique. That said, you probably don’t want to stop and admire the crystal-clear water too long, lest you get swept off course and into the path of a hungry machine.
