Given the fact the developer’s CEO has recording and mixing credits on albums by artists such as
Kelis and Snoop Dogg, it should be no surprise that sound is taken very seriously in this game, with fantastic 3D audio implementation. It impresses immediately, the thumping beats of the techno/dubstep/hip-hop mishmash heard muffled in the distance, slowly but surely becoming louder until they thrum all around you when you enter the arcade for the first time. Runs through the main game, meanwhile, are hugely immersive thanks to stunning spatial audio – you can hear precisely where approaching enemies are coming from. This incredible use of sound is a perfect fit for a game set in a technologically advanced future.
