TRIGGER HAPPY

-

While it’s hard to imagine precisely how we’d feel in Selene’s space shoes, stuck in an eternal loop on an alien planet determined to kill her, Housemarque’s use of the DualSense brings us closer to being stuck in that nightmare than we expected. You know, in a good way.

The pistol you start with is a bit weedy, but that’s masked by the haptics. Hold the trigger down for autofire and you’ll feel the steady, rhythmic beat of the shots as the gun edges ever closer to an empty magazine. Use a lobber and you’ll feel the DualSense shudder in your hands each time it reloads; fire a carbine and you’ll feel the gentle but insistent hammer of its shots in the trigger.

Each time you dash, your controller gives a brief shiver under your palms, and you can feel yourself being pulled across each link of the chain with every use of the grapnel. No wonder Selene keeps coming back again and again.
