07 The unveiling of Akechi as a tragic enemy is shocking in its own right, but his transformation from the princely Crow into Black Mask raises the drama. This new form is much darker in tone as well as in palette, and seems to take visual cues from Guts’ Berserker Armour, in particular its pointed helmet. As this is where Akechi gives into his hatred, it’s akin to the strain the cursed Berserker Armour puts on Guts, ready to reduce him to a bloodthirsty monster the moment he gives himself over to his negative emotions.
