The Forgotten City
Oscar Taylor-Kent won't forget his Roman vacay
Flung into the past and trapped in an Ancient Roman timeloop, I relive a doomsday from the gods again and again while attempting to curtail it for good and return to my own time. Part detective game, part puzzle box, I love how many options there are to progress, leads in various quests often playing off one another. Failure to avert someone's death in one loop, for instance, might provide a clue on how to access a sealed-off area, before I turn back the clock and do it more cleanly. Time for another go!

Rachel Watts is loving life as a grumpy old witch More games should let you play as a crotchety hag. Running around a forest scavenging for ingredients and sassing people is my idea of heaven. Playing as a feisty swamp crone, I begrudgingly help fairytale characters solve their problems by crafting items. After scuttling around collecting a long list of recipe components, I cook up bubbling brews to magic up a solution. It's a cosy adventure and collect-a-thon, perfect for me – I love hoarding random stuff in games just in case I need it later.
Slay The Spire
Jess Kinghorn gets zapped!
In case it’s not been obvious from the last few issues, I’ve been on something of a card-based kick as of late. Digital card games are great at keeping track of all the rules and little nuances my swiss-cheese brain loses track of in a tabletop setting. Roguelike deckbuilder Slay The Spire ticks all my ‘easy to pick up, difficult to master’ boxes and I’m enjoying getting to grips with The Defect in particular. Pondering orbs and hurling lightning – what’s not to love? Just don’t ask how prematurely my last few runs ended…
