WE ARE OFK

Let the music play

-

“YOU FOLLOW EACH OF THE FOUR VIRTUAL BAND MEMBERS IN THE GAME.”

FORMAT PS5, PS4 / ETA 2022 / DEV TEAM OFK / PLAYERS 1

Needing to get over splitting from her girlfriend, pianist Itsumi Saito decides to move to Los Angeles to start a new life. A skilled piano player, her plan involves getting back into music but that dream feels like a million miles away when the bills start piling up. Her ambitions aren’t stifled, though. When she crosses paths with singer/ songwriter Luca, producer Jey, and VST artist Carter they decide to form indie-pop group OFK in the hope of making it big.

You follow each of the four virtual band members in the game, replying to text messages, picking dialogue choices, and interacting with the band’s music videos. Each of the five episodes will feature a new single from OFK’s debut EP and you’ll be able to step in and participate with the dreamy visuals that play along with the music.

The group’s single Follow/ Unfollow was revealed during a musical interlude at the Game Awards in 2020; its chill, lo-fi energy had listeners buzzing in anticipation of the game’s release. By the end of its five-episode run, the game will have told the band’s story and released a complete EP. In that way, We Are OFK feels like an animated docu-series meets interactive mixtape.

Although we’re in for a dreamy journey, OFK’s narrative will be underpinned with conversations that deal with impostor syndrome, heartbreak, and creative block – the troubles and conflicts that materialise when you decide to pursue your creative dreams. Overall, it looks like being a heartfelt ‘making-of-the-band’ story, and just like its cast of lovable queer characters, you can’t help hoping that the band makes it big both in virtual LA and in the real world.

?? ?? While it looks dreamy, with its pastel palette, the game does tackle some complex topics.
