Dragon’s Dogma gets sequel on its tenth birthday

-

At the helm is Hideaki Itsuno, who you’ll recognise as the director of both Devil May Cry 4 and 5.

After a decade-long quest, Dragon’s Dogma’s sworn swords are finally seeing satisfaction. On its tenth anniversary, it was announced that Capcom’s hack-andslash RPG with a difference will receive that long-awaited sequel.

The project is already in development with Hideaki Itsuno at the helm. Itsuno revealed the logo via a dramatic costume change during the anniversary stream. After apologising for the wait, he said, “Everyone in the development team is hard at work creating a game that we hope you will enjoy. Please look forward to it!” No release window has been announced, suggesting it’s a few years off.

FIGHTING FANTASY

Beyond Itsuno’s involvement with the original 2012 game as well as its 2013 rerelease as Dark Arisen, you’ll recognise him as the director of both Devil May Cry 4 and 5. Like the latter game, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is being built on the phenomenal RE Engine.

Finessed combat is what makes the first Dragon’s Dogma such an enduring cult hit. Your custom protagonist plus your AI-controlled Pawn charge into battle against impressive bosses and, rather than hacking away at their ankles, you’re encouraged to grapple and gouge them all over. A slew of vocations designed to be approachable to action game newbies, plus a demanding but rewarding world to explore, are what keep so many coming back for more – never mind waving the banner for a sequel all this time later.
