With storms on the horizon, Odyssey’s oceans could prove challenging

PlayStation Official Magazine (UK) - - ASSASSIN’S CREED ODYSSEY -

While comparing Odyssey’s ship gameplay to that of Black Flag’s, Jonathan Dumont, creative director on Odyssey, says there’s more involved this time around.

“We have dynamic weather in the game. Storms on the sea create bigger waves, but it’s not that one rogue giant wave you need to dodge,” he explains. (If you remember, in Black Flag one huge wave would emerge for you to battle by turning the ship towards it.) In Odyssey, however, “it’s more than that,” says Dumont, suggesting the whole ocean is somehow against you: “It’s actually one of my favourite moments in the game, when you see lighting striking these giant waves as a ship on fire burns in the distance. It’s stunning.”
