Skydiving

Kissing the clouds with PlayStation’s most exciting plummets

PlayStation Official Magazine (UK) - - SKYDIVING -

1 FORTNITE BATTLE ROYALE

Gravity sucks. Screw you, Newton. Still, just because everything that goes up must eventually come down doesn’t mean we can’t have fun hurtling back towards terra firma. Take Fortnite. The purest joy in the battle royale phenomenon comes from cutting through the clouds as you skydive towards its island.

2 METAL GEAR SOLID 3: SNAKE EATER

In a cute nod to a certain Xbox shooter, Naked Snake’s Cold War adventure begins with the sneaky agent taking part in a Halo jump. In essence, he throws himself out of a plane, then proceeds to pirouette through the clouds like a gravity-defying serpent. Pity he doesn’t exactly stick the landing.

3 GTA ONLINE

GTA V may let you drive an ATV out of a plane before plummeting towards Sandy Shores, but Rockstar’s single-player sandbox can’t match its online mode in the skydiving stakes. Thanks to GTA Online’s Overtime Rumble, you can launch cars into the air, then skydive and parachute towards an over-sized bullseye.

SSX 4

EA’s PS3 piste reboot actively encourages you to take to the air whenever possible. While ploughing through pristine snow on your board is fine, flinging yourself off the side of a mountain, then floating through the sky like a giant flying squirrel – courtesy of SSX’s wingsuit – is all sorts of boarding bodacious.

5 RATCHET & CLANK 3

Never tell a Lombax the odds… especially when said odds involve skydiving onto Kerwan with a bunch of Galactic Rangers as Tyhrranoids try to blast the furry mechanic out of the sky. Avoid all that pesky alien fire on the way down, and you only have to worry about heat-seeking missiles. *gulp*

6 MEDAL OF HONOR: AIRBORNE

Placing you in the boots of a paratrooper in the US 82nd Airborne Division, this particular Medal Of Honor is no stranger to sky-surfing shenanigans. Unlike most of its series siblings, this shooter is actually quite freeform, and allows you to throw yourself out of a plane and airdrop to almost any point on the map.

7 JUST CAUSE 3

Rico Rodriguez was never meant to live life with his feet planted firmly on Medici soil. Instead, thanks to his grapple hook/wingsuit combo, not to mention his propensity for nicking helicopters then jumping from them, this freedom fighter was destined to constantly dive from the sky. Solid land is so overrated.

8 LEGO MARVEL SUPER HEROES

There’s a trophy in TT Games’ cutesy title that acts as a little nod to Toy Story. After you finish the first level, you can skydive from SHIELD’s Helicarrier. Jump from the mighty craft, and once you reach the ground, ‘Falling with style’ will pop. Just don’t forget your parachute. Buzz Lightyear would approve.

STEEP 9

Another snowboarder that takes flight wherever it can. While skiing and boarding through the Alps both control well, nothing compares to the exhilaration of weaving between mountain peaks as you ride the frozen gusts above in Steep’s wingsuit. To increase your skydiving pleasure, enable the GoPro cam.
