god of war
This e-Norse-mous adventure reinvented the Kratos myth
Despite releasing quite early on in 2018, Kratos’ latest journey stayed in our hearts all year long. It’s filled with plenty of spectacle, as you’d expect from the series – bloody, violent fights, epic brawls in fantastic
worlds, and clashes with giant, mythical monsters.
But ultimately it’s the more human story that ties the whole thing together and leaves the biggest impression, that moving father-son journey as Kratos takes Atreus to the highest peak in the land in order to scatter the ashes of Faye, the boy’s mother. It gives scale to the rest of the adventure.
Much more introspective than its Greek-themed predecessors, this almost entirely one-shot directed game was a personal journey through the big world of Norse mythology.
