Hey Mum, Watch The Boom

- BY ROMA CHRISTIAN

Logitech-owned Ultimate Ears (UE) has revamped its best selling ‘BOOM’ Bluetooth speakers after nearly three years. Featuring a sleek exterior and one-touch ‘Magic Button’, the new UE Boom 3 (A$199.95) and Megaboom 3 ($299.95) land down under in September.

Like its predecessors, the next-generation Boom 3 and Megaboom 3 are durable portable speakers, now in a two-toned mesh exterior with IP67 rating.

Despite a smooth new aesthetic, the speakers are waterproof, dustproof and claim to float on water.

Unlike the recently released UE Blast and Megablast, the Boom 3/Megaboom 3 remain true to their roots and do not feature smart assistant integration.

Both speakers deliver 360-degree sound, with upgraded internal components for the Megaboom 3, to deliver “deeper bass” and “improved clarity”.

Bluetooth range has also been pushed to 150 feet, with the charging port moved to a more accessible location.

The Boom 3 boasts a 15 hour battery life, with the Megaboom 3 offering 20 hours. New to both third-generation speakers is a one touch ‘Magic Button’, which allows users to instantly play their favourite tunes with a simple click.

The Magic Button enables users to play, pause and skip tracks without reaching for their smartphone.

As an added sweetener, Magic Button will immediately trigger a user’s favourite Apple Music or Deezer playlist. Ultimate Ears claims support for additional music streaming services (e.g. Spotify) will roll-out over time.

Released alongside the Blast and Megablast, the new Boom 3 and Megaboom 3 are also compatible with UE’s Power Up charging dock.

Like other UE speakers, the new Boom 3 and Megaboom 3 support ‘Party Up’, to pair up to 150 speakers for a multi-room system. App connectivity provides remote on/off functionality, and access to a custom equaliser.

The new Boom 3 and Megaboom 3 are available in Australia in four dual-toned colours: Night (Black), Sunset (Red), Lagoon (Blue) and Ultraviolet (Purple).
