Service to pay tribute to officers
PORT Douglas and Mossman communities are welcome to attend National Police Remembrance Day tomorrow.
A memorial service to honour fallen officers will be held at St Mary’s by the Sea in Port Douglas from 10am.
National Police Remembrance Day recognises the unique nature of police service and the dangers police face in their daily pursuits.
One of the most important days on the policing calendar, it is a time for members of the QPS and the community to remember, honour and say thank you to the dedicated men and women who have died while on duty.
Port Douglas Senior Constable Maggie Meadows said it was also a day for officers to reflect not just on those who have passed, but friends and colleagues who have dealt with traumatic events.
“We deal with trauma every day, so this is a day to support police,” she said.
“It’s open to the community and anyone who wants to go.”
National Police Remembrance Day has been held in regional centres throughout Queensland since 1989.
