New CEO keen to work with com­mu­nity

DOU­GLAS Shire Coun­cil’s new chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer Mark Sto­er­mer is keen to get in­volved in the com­mu­nity.

“In the week that I’ve been here it’s just been fan­tas­tic and I’ve been re­ally lov­ing it,” he said.

“I’ve been given a tour around the shire and it’s great to see all the work coun­cil has been do­ing. I’ve had chats with com­mu­nity mem­bers and I’m look­ing for­ward to more of those.

“I’m re­ally look­ing for­ward to work­ing with coun­cil­lors and the or­gan­i­sa­tion, it’s a fan­tas­tic or­gan­i­sa­tion and my im­pres­sion has been re­ally pos­i­tive.

“There are a lot of op­por­tu­ni­ties to do a lot of good things and I’ve re­ally en­joyed my first week, meet­ing peo­ple and get­ting my head across different is­sues.”

Mr Sto­er­mer will bring ex­ten­sive ex­pe­ri­ence in lo­cal gov­ern­ment, in­clud­ing a fiveyear stint as direc­tor of cor­po­rate busi­ness at the City of Mel­bourne.

He also pre­vi­ously ran high pro­file wealth man­age­ment firm Ford­ham Group and was gen­eral man­ager at global ac­coun­tancy com­pany Moore Stephens in Mel­bourne.

Mayor Ju­lia Leu said coun­cil was ex­tremely pleased to have Mr Sto­er­mer on board.

“Mark is a proven leader with sig­nif­i­cant lo­cal gov­ern­ment and com­mer­cial ex­pe­ri­ence,” she said. “Dou­glas Shire Coun­cil staff and Coun­cil­lors are ab­so­lutely thrilled to have such a gifted cor­po­rate ex­ec­u­tive at our helm.”
