PROMINENT Port Douglas businessman John Morris believes the flow-on effect of a landmark marina development will stimulate investment from small business.
Billionaire investor Ghassan Aboud is in the final stages of presenting Crystalbrook Collection’s plans for a lavish six and five-star hotel along Dicksons Inlet.
The $200 million project would be the town’s largest investment and the first six-star hotel in the Far North. Mr Morris said it would provide much needed assurance for small-traders through to highend players across the region.
“It’s going to inject optimism and confidence from smaller businesses to make their own planned investments in the Port Douglas region,” Mr Morris said.
“The tourism industry also needs an announcement like this to put Port Douglas back on their list as a special reef and rainforest destination. We need it to become a must-do for international travellers.”
Crystalbrook chief executive Mark Davie said his team would present formal plans to Douglas Shire Council in a private meeting in coming weeks.
