Skase-like shake-up

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

IS Port Douglas on the brink of its biggest shake-up since Christopher Skase’s Sheraton Grand Mirage?

Crystalbrook Collection is willing to pump more than $200m into the Far North’s first six-star hotel, alongside a five-star offering on Dicksons Inlet.

Opportunities of this scope are incredibly rare and it has set tongues wagging across the region.

The company’s billionaire owner Ghassan Aboud is expected to tick off on plans within weeks, meaning conversations will ramp up between his team and Douglas Shire Council.

The Syrian’s vision is reminiscent of Skase in the 1980s whose investments changed the face of the resort town. It’s clear Crystalbrook is leaving no stone unturned to attract the well-heeled traveller back to Port Douglas.
