Another Dave becomes milestone man
THE great wall of Dave’s has found its 2000th member.
Port Douglas fish and chip shop Dave’s Takeaway has been eagerly awaiting the milestone customer to share the same name as its owner.
Dave Lowe was preparing for a busy lunch at his Macrossan St shop last Wednesday when another of his namesake walked through the door.
“He had no idea he was the 2000th Dave, he was just coming in to have his photo taken to stick on the wall,” Mr Lowe said.
“We gave him a big cheer and hooray and he got a free lunch and 2000 cents ($20).
“I think his daughter thought it was pretty funny.”
The man, from Geelong, was in town for the birth of his daughter’s baby.
“She mentioned that he must come in and get on the wall of Dave’s,” he said.
The popular tourist and local eatery is up for sale after seven successful years for Mr Lowe and his wife, Leanne.
The couple are moving back to Melbourne to be closer to Mrs Lowe’s ageing mum and family.
“It’s a great business, we’ve been here for seven years and had great fun and made a lot of money out of it,” Mr Lowe said.
“We’ve got a good local following with a lot of tradies and repeat customers.
“It would be a good family business or even two young couples, they could both work in it.
“It was nice to be able to serve the 2000th Dave before we sold.”
