Rockers headline Carnivale
VETERAN indie rockers Eskimo Joe have been booked to bring in the 25th anniversary of Port Douglas Carnivale.
In a huge coup for the silver anniversary event, the charttoppers will headline a stacked program from May 24-26 in what is shaping to be the most power-punched festival yet.
Guitarist Stu MacLeod said the band was delighted to accept the birthday bash invite for an exclusive Tropic Rock concert at Rex Smeal Park.
“We’re looking forward to soaking up some sun and playing some tunes,” MacLeod said.
“We drove up to Port Douglas once when we were performing in Cairns. It’s an absolutely stunning place.”
The multi-award winning trio have a pocket full of hits after bursting onto the scene with their debut album Their follow up,
received critical acclaim, but it was their third album that saw them become a household name. The title single won an ARIA for Single of the Year, peaked at number six on the Australian charts and spent 19 weeks inside the top 20. It came in at number two on the Triple J Hottest 100 of 2006, going on to release it in the US in 2007.
The eight-time ARIA award winners said Port Douglas could ‘expect the unexpected’.
Douglas Shire Mayor Julia Leu said she was thrilled to se- cure the band for the ‘Sunshine and Silver’ themed event. She said organisers were putting the finishing touches to an exciting program.
“This year Eskimo Joe celebrated its 21st anniversary with an Australian tour, and just like Carnivale, you have to be good to last that long and keep fans coming back for more,” Ms Leu said.
“What Carnivale fans can expect in 2019 is more of the fabulous comedy and razzledazzle of the salacious cabaret and breathtaking circus show Wonderland Spiegeltent, the street parade, family beach day, the longest lunch, the seafood extravaganza and lots, lots more.
“May is a beautiful time in the tropics and we want old friends and new to come and stay, mix with the locals and get a real feel for what life is all about in our special part of the world.”
