FERRY BLOCKS HEAVY VEHICLES

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

DOUGLAS Shire Council has closed heavy vehicle access due to the landslips and fallen trees on the Alexandra Range in the Daintree Rainforest. Council has reopened Cape Tribulation Rd to one lane after completing work to clear debris. The landslide was caused by a rain dump of more than 200mm earlier this week. It comes as council confirmed only standard passenger vehicles will be allowed on the Daintree Ferry. “Motorists are asked to drive with extreme caution and expect to be required to drive around fallen trees,” a council spokesman said. The clean-up is expected to take until Christmas. “Buchanan Creek Rd has also sustained major damage and crews will compete temporary repairs when we can get the trucks through,” the spokesman said. Council anticipates more work will be required when access to other roads is available.
