VISITORS and locals alike are spoiled for choice when it comes to activities over the Christmas holiday period.
Whether it’s a delightful four course Christmas feast or enjoying a spectacular fireworks display in Anzac park, there’s always something to do in the Douglas region.
If you don’t feel like hosting Christmas lunch and you definitely don’t fancy doing the dishes, or if you’re just stuck on what you should do, then restaurants around the shire have something special for you. The Tin Shed will host their 2018 Members’ Christmas Party on Saturday, December 22, and don’t worry non-members can attend too. The event starts at 6pm with live entertainment and canapes, entry per member is $30, non-members $40. Arabella’s will put on a delectable four course lunch between 12pm to 2pm on Christmas Day (adults $98, $40 per child). Santa will pay a special visit to those at the Sheraton Mirage for Christmas Day buffet lunch and three hour beverage package. Reservations are essential.
There’s nothing better than bringing in the New Year with family and friends along the water in Port Douglas. Hemingway’s has your plans sorted with a pirate themed party and live DJs spinning the decks all night. Walk the plank into 2019 with a pint of brew in hand and try your luck at winning best dressed on the night. Douglas Shire Council will put on a tremendous fireworks show to celebrate the evening at Anzac Park at 8pm and mid- night. Restaurants throughout the main drag will be welcoming the patronage.
Arabella’s has something on the menu to send your tastebuds into the New Year. Their NYE dinner party includes a six course meal and drink, with entry to their exclusive NYE party all for $155. Ibiza DJ Greg Lorenzo, DJ Delo (Brisbane) plus more special guest will start the party at 9pm, entry is $30 (including a drink).
Get in touch with your wild side by signing up for the Wildlife Habitat’s Junior Keepers Program. The program costs $45 (including lunch and afternoon tea) and runs from 11am to 3pm, and allows kids to experience a day in the life of a wildlife keeper. Dates: January 2, 3, 9, 10. Stay cool this summer holidays by joining School Holiday Swimming at the Mirage Country Club. Every Monday and Wednesday from January 5 to 23. It’s $60 for three lessons, $108 for six or $153 for nine and caters to all levels.
After a stellar and sold out end of year performance, the team at Bodies in Motion will entertain shoppers at Port Village Shopping Centre on Sunday, December 23.
The show starts at 10.30am, activities in the centre will run from 9am to 1pm. Santa Claus will make a guest appearance and photos with him will be available after the show. Face painting and delicious treats will also be available for all to enjoy.
