VIS­I­TORS and lo­cals alike are spoiled for choice when it comes to ac­tiv­i­ties over the Christ­mas hol­i­day pe­riod.

Whether it’s a de­light­ful four course Christ­mas feast or en­joy­ing a spec­tac­u­lar fire­works dis­play in An­zac park, there’s al­ways some­thing to do in the Dou­glas re­gion.

If you don’t feel like host­ing Christ­mas lunch and you def­i­nitely don’t fancy do­ing the dishes, or if you’re just stuck on what you should do, then res­tau­rants around the shire have some­thing spe­cial for you. The Tin Shed will host their 2018 Mem­bers’ Christ­mas Party on Satur­day, De­cem­ber 22, and don’t worry non-mem­bers can at­tend too. The event starts at 6pm with live en­ter­tain­ment and canapes, en­try per mem­ber is $30, non-mem­bers $40. Ara­bella’s will put on a de­lec­ta­ble four course lunch be­tween 12pm to 2pm on Christ­mas Day (adults $98, $40 per child). Santa will pay a spe­cial visit to those at the Sher­a­ton Mi­rage for Christ­mas Day buf­fet lunch and three hour bev­er­age pack­age. Reser­va­tions are es­sen­tial.

There’s noth­ing bet­ter than bring­ing in the New Year with fam­ily and friends along the wa­ter in Port Dou­glas. Hem­ing­way’s has your plans sorted with a pi­rate themed party and live DJs spin­ning the decks all night. Walk the plank into 2019 with a pint of brew in hand and try your luck at win­ning best dressed on the night. Dou­glas Shire Coun­cil will put on a tremen­dous fire­works show to cel­e­brate the evening at An­zac Park at 8pm and mid- night. Res­tau­rants through­out the main drag will be wel­com­ing the pa­tron­age.

Ara­bella’s has some­thing on the menu to send your taste­buds into the New Year. Their NYE din­ner party in­cludes a six course meal and drink, with en­try to their ex­clu­sive NYE party all for $155. Ibiza DJ Greg Lorenzo, DJ Delo (Bris­bane) plus more spe­cial guest will start the party at 9pm, en­try is $30 (in­clud­ing a drink).

Get in touch with your wild side by sign­ing up for the Wildlife Habi­tat’s Ju­nior Keep­ers Pro­gram. The pro­gram costs $45 (in­clud­ing lunch and af­ter­noon tea) and runs from 11am to 3pm, and al­lows kids to ex­pe­ri­ence a day in the life of a wildlife keeper. Dates: Jan­uary 2, 3, 9, 10. Stay cool this sum­mer hol­i­days by join­ing School Hol­i­day Swim­ming at the Mi­rage Coun­try Club. Ev­ery Mon­day and Wed­nes­day from Jan­uary 5 to 23. It’s $60 for three lessons, $108 for six or $153 for nine and caters to all lev­els.

Af­ter a stel­lar and sold out end of year per­for­mance, the team at Bod­ies in Mo­tion will en­ter­tain shop­pers at Port Vil­lage Shop­ping Cen­tre on Sun­day, De­cem­ber 23.

The show starts at 10.30am, ac­tiv­i­ties in the cen­tre will run from 9am to 1pm. Santa Claus will make a guest ap­pear­ance and pho­tos with him will be avail­able af­ter the show. Face paint­ing and de­li­cious treats will also be avail­able for all to en­joy.
