Multiple choices for seniors
Everything from aquaaerobics to yoga will be on offer to Claremont seniors for a week from this Sunday.
The council has at least one activity every day on its Seniors’ Week calendar, most of them free.
Mayor Jock Barker said the week acknowledged seniors and the valuable contribution they made to the community.
“We believe it is important there are opportunities to celebrate later life,” Mr Barker said.
“There’ll be yoga classes, health workshops, walking groups and golfing activities on offer as well as the alwayspopular twilight river cruise.
“With more than 35% of our town’s population over the age of 55, it’s important for us to be able to support active ageing in the community by promoting opportunities for social participation, health, learning and inclusion.
“It is a great opportunity for our senior community to get involved and try something new.”
The week will kick off on Sunday, November 11, with a Remembrance Day ceremony at the war memorial in Stirling Highway.
The $15 river cruise starts at Claremont Yacht Club on Wednesday, November 14, at 5.30pm.
Local businesses will join the celebrations, with promotions for seniors including discounted coffees at Stand’in Room, half-price entry at Claremont Aquatic Centre, discounts at Friendlies Chemist, $10 golf and coffee at Lake Claremont Golf Course, and discounted classes at Tamara Yoga.
