Man charged over po­lice as­sault

Ten­dons in a po­lice of­fi­cer’s finger were ripped while he was on duty in Mt Clare­mont on Mon­day morn­ing.

Con­sta­ble Joey Bal­czer was at a home help­ing deal with a do­mes­tic vi­o­lence re­port when a man al­legedly be­came ag­gres­sive.

A 63-year-old Mt Clare­mont man was bailed af­ter be­ing charged with ag­gra­vated com­mon as­sault and as­sault­ing a pub­lic of­fi­cer.

He is to ap­pear in Perth Mag­is­trates’ Court on Wed­nes­day.

Con­sta­ble Bal­czer was ex­pected to be off work for eight to 12 weeks.
