The next time you start to feel over­whelmed try­ing to find the per­fect bath­room tiles or just can’t con­cen­trate when do­ing your online bank­ing, take a mi­cro-break. Spend­ing too long fo­cused on one task, es­pe­cially when you’re al­ready feel­ing frus­trated and fraz­zled, is un­pro­duc­tive, ac­cord­ing to a new study from the Univer­sity of Illi­nois.

The re­search found that sim­ply tak­ing a short break when you are feel­ing over­whelmed leads to im­proved en­ergy and con­cen­tra­tion. (Just don’t let your break turn into an ex­cuse to avoid the task.) A walk around the block or a quick chat with a friend could be all you need to get your head back in the game.
