As self-annointed patron of the peloton, Fabian Cancellara is never shy in letting his rivals know when he feels they’re not pulling their weight and several, not least Peter Sagan, looked to have got an earful towards the denouement of Flanders. If it was a tactic that he hoped would ultimately bring victory, it worked, as he out-sprinted this group of four to win in the newly reconfigured finish in Oudenaarde. This win made him only the second non-Belgian, after Fiorenzo Magni, to win the race three times.
