Alexander Kristoff has been a contender for some time now but by going the distance at Milano-Sanremo, the powerful Norwegian became one of the sport’s heavyweight hitters. Procycling interviewed him at the end of last season and found him a man who kept his cards so close to his chest that we simply couldn’t fathom whether he had the ambition to contend in the biggest races. At Katusha’s 2014 presentation, however, our Europan Editor Daniel Friebe overheard Kristoff indulge in a lengthy monologue to team-mate Daniel Moreno that talked up his chances of winning La Primavera. After revealing this on Twitter and highlighting that Kristoff’s odds with the bookies stood at 100-1, several of his followers took a punt on his tip.
