Great news to hear that internatio­nal cycling’s brush with Yorkshire won’t begin and end with this summer’s Tour de France Grand Départ. Too often toplevel competitio­n – I’m looking at you, Olympic Games – sweeps in and out of town, leaving nothing behind but empty stadiums, a costly tab and fading memories. Stadiums obviously aren’t an issue but, if you believe everything you read in the newspapers, there’s a finance hole to plug. The news of an annual pro race from 2015 sounds like just the legacy we needed.
