SCINTO SAYS…
A stage everyone would love to win
It’s a big stage in the sense that it’s one of the longest of the race and while it doesn’t look hard, I think the last half-hour could be really absorbing. The climb to Montecassino is a real tester, so you’re going to see a good finisseur win.
Variety in the Giro is important because lots of different teams will believe they have a rider to suit different stages. On this stage, I guarantee that pretty much all the
direttore sportivi will want to get their teeth into it. What’s important is not to get carried away, and to get it right tactically. We’ll try to be there with someone like Ponzi but of course everyone will be thinking along the same lines.
Scinto believes Simone Ponzi, a new recruit from Astana, will be one to watch from his team but given the super-long route and tough finish, a winner’s hard to call
