local HISTORY
In 1963, Vito Taccone from Abruzzo seized the day on the Oropa, prevailing over Vittorio Adorni and eventual winner Franco Balmamion. Taccone’s abrasive nature made him unpopular in the gruppo but he didn’t care. He won the following two stages in the Alps, added a fifth in the Dolomites, and remains a Giro legend.
