The Canavese, north of Turin, produced one of the most underrated Giro riders of all time. Giovanni Brunero won it in 1921, 1922 and 1926 but is barely remembered. In an era before TV, when the fans watched the finishes in the big cities, pure climber Brunero’s flaw was that few saw his best performanc­es.
