Fourteen giri yet not so much as a stage win, Marostica’s Gianni Faresin was road captain for champions such as Maurizio Fondriest and Gianni Bugno between 1988 and 2004. Although he won the Giro di Lombardia in 1995, he altruistically views his greatest victory as the 1996 Giro, won by his captain, Pavel Tonkov.
