Oreste Conte was one of many great cyclists overshadowed by Coppi and Bartali. He didn’t make his Giro debut until he was 26 but soon enraptured the public. While Coppi and Bartali fought for who would win overall, Conte won 13 Giro stages over eight editions and even wore pink for a day in 1950.
