De Marchi kit

Stylish summer gear from Italy

- Simon Barnes

The De Marchi Contour Evo jersey and shorts are their top of the range products and utilise all of De Marchi’s experience and fabric technology. The race-cut jersey initially feels quite thick compared to a lot of summer jerseys but the combination of fabrics and the cut make the jersey it very comfortable when riding. The full zip front is made from De Marchi’s Dry3 Titanium fabric, which wicks moisture away from your body quickly to the top of the fabric where it then evaporates, keeping you dry and comfortable. The underarm mesh vents and the large area of Dry3D mesh fabric on the back also give great ventilation. Three large rear pockets are ample for a day’s riding, and there’s also a very useful zipped pocket in the centre for keys etc. Visibility on the back is enhanced by large reflective patterns around the shoulders and on the central pocket.

The Contour Evo shorts are equally comfortable, with large, flat bib straps which sit perfectly on your shoulders. The cut has two idiosyncrasies: a high front that makes comfort breaks more difficult, and slightly shorter legs than some other shorts. They’re fine on me but longer-limbed riders should be aware. The grippers are good.

Most of the time the multi-density pad is very comfortable, with deeper padding at the main contact points, but it’s thin at the front and when you’re on the drops, you’d like the pad to extend a bit further forwards.
