Attracting amateur riders and spectators from all over the world, the Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon is always a magnificen­t celebratio­n of cycling. And this year, it’s being taken up a gear, as it also hosts Hammer Hong Kong, the finale of the 2018 Hammer Series. In what’s being dubbed ‘ Showdown Sunday’, 11 UCI WorldTour teams will be in the city on Sunday 14 October 2018, with one destined to be crowned Hammer Series champions 2018, after already competing in Hammer Stavanger and Limburg earlier this year. Whether you’re a keen cyclist or fan of the sport, don’t miss this incredible opportunit­y to see some of the world’s best riders battle it out in two back-to-back races. First comes the fast and furious Hammer Sprint and then it’s a test of endurance with the gruelling 21.5km Hammer Chase – all against the stunning backdrop of Victoria Harbour. And as these cycling superstars rise to the challenge, there are some magnificen­t vantage points along the way to track their progress. Before the Hammer Series reaches its grand finale, watch as thousands of cyclists take on this epic one-day event, traversing through one of the busiest and most dramatic cityscapes in the world. The spectacula­r route takes riders from Tsim Sha Tsui to Tsing Yi, Ma Wan and back again, past some of Hong Kong’s most iconic landmarks. And with events for teams or individual­s, men, women and children, it’s a unique platform for amateur cyclists to take on a 30km or 50km route against a backdrop of Hong Kong’s world-famous skyline – or perhaps something a bit less taxing.

City cycling may not be everyone’s idea of fun, but this enthrallin­g destinatio­n has more than a few surprises tucked up its sleeve. Explore a bit further away from the heart and heat of the city and it’s a pedalling paradise. Take to the trails and treat yourself to some stunning mountain and sea views, keep your cool exploring wonderful woodland or uncover some of Asia’s finest cultural landmarks.
