Viviani doubles up in Hamburg

-

Arnaud Démare must have felt a sense of déjà vu, as, for the second year running, Elia Viviani beat him in the sprint at the Cyclassics Hamburg. Decked in his new Italian tricolore jersey, Viviani emphatically defended his title, this time using Démare as his unwitting lead-out man in the final 500 metres. With FDJ setting the pace inside the final kilometre, Viviani latched onto the Frenchman’s wheel before coming around him to take the win. It was Viviani’s 16th win of the season, but his first WorldTour level one-day race in 2018. It was his Quick-Step team’s 55th victory of the year.
