Pascal’s wager on long sprint pays off
As well as delivering his seventh win of 2018, Pascal Ackermann’s long sprint in the Brussels Cycling Classic had the benefit of carrying him clear of a heavy crash a couple of hundred metres before the line. Ag2r’s Clément Venturini and Rudy Barbier touched wheels and fell in sight of the finish, baulking last year’s winner, Arnaud Démare. Ackermann held on and denied Jasper Stuyven by a bike length. Ackermann is one of three prolific sprinters at BoraHansgrohe - the German, Peter Sagan and Sam Bennett have contributed 20 of the team’s 29 wins between them this year.
