The very best cycling pictures
The Vuelta peloton begins the long trip northwest across Spain after a week on the south coast. Here, it passes between Murcia and Jaén on the seventh stage. Rolling hills eroded the bunch so that only 30 riders would contest the inish in Pozo Alcón, after the last survivor of the break, Michael Woods, was swept up. On a slightly uphill run-in to the line, France's Tony Gallopin counterattacked Spain's Jesús Herrada, and held of a fast-charging Peter Sagan by ive seconds. The Slovak would inish the Vuelta winless, but with six top threes.
