Cyclo- cross World Championships
Denmark 3 February 2019
It wasn't to be for Wout Van Aert at the cross World Championships. The Belgian was unable to retain his rainbow jersey for a fourth consecutive year and had to settle for second behind Dutch rival Mathieu van der Poel. Van der Poel has dominated this cross season, and on the fast, technical course in Bogense he rode away from Van Aert after ive of the course's 12 laps. Van Aert, meanwhile, has endured months of legal battles with his former team over his contract and raced as an independent this winter. He is now turning his attention to joining Jumbo-Visma on the road.
