Turgis gets another break
Every one of Anthony Turgis’s four previous career wins had come from a breakaway, and he continued that trend at the GP La Marseillaise. The Frenchman last won in 2016 at the Tour of Luxembourg from a break of four; at the Classic Loire Atlantique that same year, Turgis won solo by more than a minute; his 2015 Boucles de la Mayenne overall win was built on a solo stage victory. This year, a late change to the Marseillaise handed the break an advantage, as organisers were forced to scrub an ascent of the Route des Crêtes because of strong winds. Turgis beat Romain Combaud in the two-up sprint.
