UAE Emirates burst through on the grandest stage of all in 2020, thanks to Tadej Pogačcar’s dramatic Tour victory. The 21-year-old’s achievement was even more incredible considering his lack of team support in the high mountains. The signing of Rafał Majka will help plug that gap, but the team still looks a little underpowered compared to Jumbo and Ineos. It was also overlooked, but UAE started and finished the Tour in yellow thanks to Alexander Kristoff’s opening stage win in Nice - one of 33 victories UAE racked up in 2020. Picking up Marc Hirschi from Sunweb is a big win, while Matteo Trentin from CCC could be an astute signing and ensure that it won’t be all down to Pogačcar in 2021.
