CAJA RURAL- SEGUROS RGA
2020 World Ranking 35 Established 2010 Team Manager José Manuel Hernández Bike Guerciotti
All things considered, four victories in 2020 was not a bad return for the Spanish squad. The highest profile of those was thanks to Gonzalo Serrano’s late attack at the end of stage 2 of the Ruta del Sol, where he caught out the WorldTour riders, although he’s since been rewarded with a move up to Movistar, continuing the trend of the team always placing a rider in the top ranks each winter. With development in mind, Caja Rural’s only three new signings this year - Jon Barrenetxea, Jokin Murguialday and Josu Etxeberria - are all up and coming young Spanish riders (the trio are all aged 20) and all graduate to the ProTour ranks from their development squad. Sprinter Jon Aberasturi came close to more than his one win last year and was the squad’s most consistent rider with 18 top 10s (including at races such as Valenciana, Algarve, Burgos and the Vuelta). Former cyclo-cross rider Jonathan Lastra is a regular in breakaways, while Colombian Jhojan García, 23, is worth keeping an eye on - he was eighth at the Tour de l’Avenir in 2019.
