Bernal takes his first pro victories, winning two stages and the GC title at the 2.1 ranked Sibiu Cycling Tour in Romania. Wins the mountainous day to Bâlea Lac by over a minute to cement his race lead.

Follows in the footsteps of countrymen Miguel Ángel López and Nairo Quintana to win the Tour de l’Avenir, the most prestigious under-23 stage race on the calendar.

Signs for Team Sky and gets off to a good start by winning the Colombian National TT title and the GC at Colombia Oro y Paz, the latter eight seconds ahead of Quintana.
