The Basque women’s race has been dominated by riders from the Netherlands in the last decade and a bit. First, Marianne Vos claimed the record number of wins with four in between 2010 and 2014, before Annemiek van Vleuten and Anna van der Breggen joined in recently, with two and one wins respectively. Van Vleuten will be keen to impress her new Spanish Movistar team with a second consecutive victory at the hilly classic following her spectacular triumph at the Tour of Flanders.
