American classics such as grits, fluffy buttermilk pancakes and bagels take on a modern twist at this laid-back, familyfrie­ndly café with two locations: TriBeCa and High Line in the Meatpackin­g District. There’s even a Breakfast for Dinner menu (daily from 5pm) featuring fried chicken and pancakes with maple butter and NY strip steak with eggs Benedict and fries.

It’s all about the pancakes here – there are 18 indulgent varieties on the menu. Most options will keep the kids happy, including the butterscot­ch, caramel and walnut-filled Yellow Brick Road. But the Saturday Morning Fever – with Baileys and Kahlúa swirled into the buttermilk mix – is strictly for Mum and Dad.

Set in the expansive green grounds of Collingwoo­d Children’s Farm, The Farm Cafe is part of a perfect family outing where the kids can pat the animals and you can sit down for breakfast any time before 4pm. There’s also a local farmers’ market on the second Saturday of every month.

This Australian-inspired café at the Goodman Arts Centre is spacious and relaxed, with a lovely outdoor area that has a jumping castle on Mondays. The all-day breakfast menu includes the classics: pancakes, eggs Benedict and Florentine, omelettes and French toast made with brioche. A second location recently opened at the Mediapolis business hub.

This is a retro-style all-day-breakfast café with cosy booths ideal for families. It has a range of vegetarian and gluten-free options, a traditiona­l full English brekkie (with black pudding) and excellent milkshakes.
