When it comes to boutique accommodation, Perth is on a roll. Slick inner-city den Alex (hotel.qantas.com.au/alexhotel) arrived on the scene in 2015, promptly followed by the elegant Como The Treasury (comohotels. com). Now, the launch of Tribe hotel means only one thing: the Western Australian capital is showing no signs of slowing down. A vast minimalist lobby awash with daylight, thanks to floor-to-ceiling glass windows, sets the mood at this nine-storey West Perth establishment next to Kings Park, about 10 minutes’ drive from the CBD. The 126 rooms – decorated with artworks, Jean Paul Gaultier cushions, Moroso chairs and dramatic Tom Dixon lighting – are just as stylish. Settle in to one of the park-view rooms with smart TV, complimentary wi-fi, movies on demand and Kevin Murphy amenities in the bathroom. Or make your way to Tribe Foods, a daytime café that morphs into a bar at night and offers a seasonal/regional/ethical menu by chef Tobie Puttock.

Algarve, the southernmost region of mainland Portugal, is a land of golden beaches and green water, soaring cliffs and whitewashed towns.
