Want an immediate improvement to your golf game? All it takes is the right club.

The lie angle

Pulled the ball to the left one too many times? Adjusting the lie angle of your club could help it sail straight. The angle of the shaft to the ground will have a huge effect on the flight of the ball: too flat and the toe will hit the ground and angle the ball right; too upright and the heel will strike and pull left (for a right-handed golfer).

No golfer’s swing is like another’s – which you’ll know if you’ve ever used a friend’s clubs and had an abysmal round. That’s why getting your clubs custom-fitted to your specifications can improve your game instantly. Here’s an insight into how the right equipment could make all the difference.

The shaft

The tallest among us don’t always need the longest clubs. Reach (or arm length) has a greater effect on what clubs are most suitable. If you use the wrong shaft length, your body will compensate for the difference: too short and you’ll be forced to slouch; too long and you’ll swing the club awkwardly. Finding the right flex is crucial, too. For maximum distance and accuracy, shaft flex must match your swing speed.

The grip

A good grip is essential to a good swing so grip pressure and size are very important. The club should feel comfortable in your hand. If the grip is too big, it will limit the hand rotation and most likely cause a slice (for a right-handed golfer). The reverse will happen if the grip is too small.
